This theater closed in 1987, In the end its venue went from showing first-run films to second-run films, At a cost of a 1.50$.
This cinema was called the 400 up until 1996 when the village theater purchased it.
In the 1980’s the plitt theaters chain operated this cinema.
This theater had 2,464 seats all together. It’s a shame this theater closed.
This cinema originally opened with two screens back in the early 1980’s.
It’s a shame that they demolished this theater, they should of fixed it up and re-opened it.
They have built an auto zone store where the theater used to sit.
The last movies I saw here were;“BLUES BROTHERS 2000” back in early 1998 & “HALF BAKED” in mid 1998.
The last movie I saw here was “BARB WIRE” back in 1996.
When AMC was operating this theater it was a first-run venue.
When it was still under the general cinema chain.
The last movies I saw here were “THINNER” & “THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT” back in early 1997
This cinema has the largest screen in the north suburbs.
I love this theater! I used to go there all the time when it was a second-run venue, back when it had only 3 screens. I never went there when the theater had only 1 screen…But it must of been a big auditorium.
The last movies I saw here were “BAD MOON” & “SCREAM" back in late 1996.
This new theater was built by General Cinemas also. AMC took over the chain in 2002.
You could also smoke in the lobby, I haven’t seen that since the 1980’s.
Though the 1990’s the bel-air was operated by the lowe’s/sony theater chain.
What’s going to happen to this drive-in?? Will they reopen it or demolish it??
The york theater is opening 2 more screens this spring…bringing the total of screens to 7.
Dose anybody know what was the last movie shown at the rose?…I would like to know.
What ever happend to the tivoli south?? also in downers grove.
This drive-in was operated by the M&R theater chain back in the 1980’s then lowes in the 1990’s.
Plitt theaters once operated the LaGRANGE theater from the 1970’s to the early 1980’s.
Granted this cinema is very beautful and has alot more screens and has stadium seating…but I still miss the old yorktown cinema.
Before this theater was A performing arts & concert venue it was A movie theater. The plitt theaters chain operated it for the last time in 1985.
