Was a great theater when it first opened and for many years after. First digital projection in the area. Good food. Classy. Went downhill after Rudyard gave up control and then really went downhill during the protracted legal battle with AMC. Result of that battle? AMC gobbled up all Cinetopia theaters. It will be interesting to see if AMC renovates or simply abandons it.
What I recall mostly about this theater, was the summer matinees for kids. Before the era of “summer blockbusters”. I remember seeing many Pippi Longstocking movies and Sinbad movies there. This would have been circa 1970-1973.
Yes, Mr. Rockwood is so right about “cheating”..haha. It was a ridiculously easy theater to auditorium hop. In fact, if memory serves, my buddy and I had a “two for one” showing of Passage To India and Witness. If memory serves…
The site of the old Rose Moyer is now a Regal Cinema multiplex. I saw Witness, Star Trek 2, A Passage To India among many other movies there. It was a good halfway point between where my friend lived and where I lived. I too enjoyed seeing the film wrap around the reel system above your head, in the lobby. Interesting.
Another memory from my Phoenix days, gone. I only saw one movie at the palms, Alien. And it had already been out for some time. I assume The Palms was showing second run stuff by then. This had to be 1980? So I guess it was torn down soon after I left town. This is the only pic I could find. The theater is the building that slopes up. View link
Yeah, it’s a “church” now. The only reason I use quotes is, I have no idea what kind of church. Or how it qualifies as such. They are adding windows to the front of the theater now. At least they paved the lot. I drove in there the other day. Not much activity. I was at the Raiders showing. I also saw Midway and Rollercoaster there, in “sensurround”. Saw Close Encounters 10 times or more there. I wish someone with some dough would buy it and restore it. Such a shame.
I have fond memories of Cine Capri. As well as the Caf Casino. I must have seen Empire Strikes Back about a dozen times there. The last movie I saw there was the re-release of Lawrence Of Arabia.

Is 165th and Division, considered Gresham? Is so, yes.

Great pics. I saw Star Trek V there. Hope they get the photo addition option fixed here soon.
