I really enjoyed this theater. I used to work as a movie projectionist at military theaters while on active duty. I love old movie theaters and it would be a dream come true to restore this grand old theater. I’ve enjoyed watching movies here and would add a balcony if possible. The Siegal Brothers have owned it since the 1950’s. There was a 50’s diner/soda fountain next door where the dry cleaners are today and you could walk right into the lobby of the theater from the diner without ever going outside. I once spoke with some folks at city hall and was told it would cost quite a bit to get it ADA compliant. I used to know the owner of the UPS store in the building and got a look inside once and it was in pretty bad shape. I always joke with my wife and say if I ever win the lotto that’s the first thing I’ll buy!
Does anyone know who I would contact to volunteer at the Balboa? I recently relocated back to San Diego after being away for a couple of years.
