Wasnt the scene where Maggie smith plays the Theatre organ in “Private Function' filmed in this cinema. Liz smith played Mother and she’s sat on the Organ Stool at the side of Maggie Smith who says "we’re going up Mother!” The late Liz Smith has a bemused look on her face if I remember correctly
I visited this Theatre quite a few times when I was at college in the Colwyn Bay Area. As I remember it it had a Terraced frontage, set back from the pavement, with full length glass doors (French Windows) The Auditorium was square and was on one level. It still had double courting seats in it. One had top be very careful where one sat as some of the seating rows were not properly fixed to the floor.
I remember the building well in its derelict condition as I was born and brought up in Woodhouse. According to “Sheffield Cinemas” in the “Images of Britain” series The Woodhouse Picture Palace was equipped for Cinemascope in the mid 50s and fitting the screen required structural alterations to the stage. Its first Cinemascope presentation was in July 1955 and it closed on 28th December 1957
