New Bowling Alley in Fox Theatre
Annoucement was made Monday that one of the most deluxe bowling alleys in north central California will be installed in the Fox Theatre building…Howard D. McBride, representative of the Blumenfeld Enterprises, 70 Eddy Street San Francisco, says that 12 lane alleys will be built…Expected to open about January 15…Blumenfeld Enterprises is a family operation of four brothers. Joe, Abe, Nate, and Jack. They operate the KVON theatres…
The Mission Theatre closed on October 26, 1963 according to the Santa Ynez Valley News (11/1/63) https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51433594497_99811a42e6_z.jpg
The signage was manufactured by YESCO and they have a great early photo of it (possibly opening day) here: https://www.yesco.com/wp-content/themes/yesco-corp/img/100years/gallery/100-years-gallery-21.jpg
The most recent advertisement I found in the Los Angeles Times was on 18 July 1981 for The Fox and the Hound, and the assessor says the mini mall that replaced it was built in 1981, which leads me to believe that it was demolished in 1981. However, American Classic Images has a photo dated April, 1983. Although both films on the marquee were released in May, 1981. http://americanclassicimages.com/Search/CA1743/txtSearch/bell
The York theater has been hosting performances of the Bob Baker Marionette Theater for several months. The official grand opening will be held on November 29, 2019. The status of this theater should be changed to OPEN. Yea! http://www.bobbakermarionettetheater.com

Looks like the tenants bought a historic church a few blocks away and will be leaving. “…Oasis will be moving in the near future from its present headquarters at Wilshire near Highland, a former movie theater.”

“…The property owner of the Criterion 6 received permission in November to convert the theater into general retail…”

I was surprised to find some nice 1940’s style details in what was probably the candy counter in the former lobby. See photos.
