I was lucky to be taken to this cinema by the ABC Grimsby projectionist on a day out in 1976 arranged by my parents, at aged 12 I wanted to be one!We saw all auditoriums..Coma was playing in one..our projectionist wanted to see the cakestand operation as it was going to be introduced to Grimsby later.I recall a very chatty Scottish young trainee projectionist ..but I’m sorry to say I had difficulty catching everything lol..are you on here? The picture quality in each screen was very good thought However it is in a prime site so now it’s St Stephens shopping centre :( a sad but inevitable end
Located on the 5th floor of SIAM PARAGON shopping centre next to Siam Square transit train station..Siam Pavali is the name of their single screen cinema within this complex that has an impressive 70ft wide laser screen..IMAX too here etc and cheaper seats available
After Covid..it seems the Company was hiding something about this cinema, and as usual corporate rubbish was spouted..ie need 9 mths to refurbish before opening. Well many cinemas can be sorted and still be open if done screen by screen.. or at least maybe 1 mth per screen max…by keeping closed patrons found other open cinemas..and for them to sell their car park..no way could the cinema continue. It’s such an iconic building..but any potential operators will be scupperd by the future building of flats..and really I believe sadly the whole place will be demolished for more flats !! Such a waste !
It seems messing the landlord about isn’t just specific to ordinary folk lol !It’s disgraceful as it is the landlords business to make a profit from property…my feeling is mis management of Cineworld accountants who were toying with collapse instead of coming clean and saying we can’t pay atm..hopefully The Empire will still continue
That covenant I 1997 when it closed sounds very much like an Odeon direction as they bought the chain and closed many cinemas as they thought the land value was more lucrative..plus to prevent a Competitor operating.. mind you the competition wouldn’t invest..just put up signage and use existing equipment until the lease ran out..shame
I don’t think the excuses of the beast from the east really wash as an excuse for administration .At least they had a near 20 year life after Odeon’s 30 Yr lease expired.A nice cinema while it lasted :)
Looking very smart in 2000…many Odeons were refurbished around this time but had a very short life despite the owners fully aware of leases ending..very odd..but at least they ended in a smart way ( don’t know how the screens were inside though..hopefully not pokey affairs as was the normal!!)

Gorgeous interior !
70 mm too for Kelly’s Heroes..one of my favourites :)
Nice to see the “E” of the Odeon signage illuminated! A very clever person thought if that!! Impressive!

Must have kept the projectionists really busy with such variety !!
Lots of choice at an excellent price…shame the people didn’t appreciate what they had….a bargain !!

I agree Terry..the absence of curtains does diminish the occasion feel ! Kind regards Paul M
Curious the posters for the films are in opposite windows !

Indeed Amback..not the same now …
Nice tabs and screen..the main original perhaps as per Odeon ?
That’s the Regal Cleethorpes..not Grimsby!!
