Looking at the arc lamp it reminds me of one of my jobs as a junior and that was to strip the copper sheathing from the carbon rods and then at Christmas time I would take the peelings down to the scrap yard on City Road. We all had a share in the proceeds.

During my time at The Queens I used to do relief work at the Odeon and I was always amazed by the mercury vapour rectifiers. Also at The Odeon we used to have live shows and I used to operate one of the Follow Spot Lights. The Odeon also occasionally had live showing of boxing matches and I remember the special projector that was installed especially for those days. I think the name of it was Idethor, maybe some one could comment on that.

Hi Peter, It was the Eidophor, Projector.. The name Eidophor is derived from the Greek word-roots eido and phor meaning ‘image’ and ‘bearer’ (carrier). Its basic technology was the use of electrostatic charges to deform an oil surface. Yeah recall the screenings but was`nt on many.
