Melvin and Caroline Mosher became the owners of this theatre in 1941. It was known as the Roxy. They were my grandparents, and it was a lucrative business in the 1940s, especially during the war years. I grew up hearing many stories about the Roxy from my parents and grandmother, all of whom were associated with it in various ways. Melvin died suddenly in 1949 and Caroline sold the theatre to John Aquila, as noted above. Seeing it now, as I do on occasional visits to St. Helena, revives memories of those now long-gone relatives whose lives were once so interconnected with that small town and its theatre.
