I worked here for Top Rank Bingo 1969/71 and remember the cinema reopening …am fairly sure Wendy Craig and possibly Mark Lester were at the event….Pete Murray opened the bingo club previously…always recall the building had a lift that went up to the roof…was also a managers flat in the building.
When I worked for Top Rank Clubs as a assistant manager I was posted to Peckham having spent the summer at their club in Paignton….Gaumont Peckham was a great building….massive foyer where patrons bought bing tickest in the first foyer and then descended steps down to the larger foyer where there was a confectionery stand and a food part…we sold an enormous amount of jellied eels etc….Ther was a bar under the stage and another where the projection box would have been giving a great view of the club below….our office was at the very top of the building and I remember there being long corridors which must have encircled the interior of the building.
I worked for Top Rank Clubs as an assistant manager and one of my duties was often to do relief work at other clubs whilst I was based at Peckham….I remember this building quite well as behind the bingo scenery on stage was a plethora of old stage lighting switches….I also managed as I recall to somehow go up in the ceiling and there was a walkway that allowed you to look down on the auditorium.
