I think the Outback does occupy the old theatre. Look at the aerial picture of the building from Colonial Drive-In page then look at the current Google satellite. Look at the side wall from street view. Definitely 1960’s block work.

This property has been a tire dealer for years, possibly since the drive-in closed. The marquee is still there and in good shape, most of the time it simply reads “tire sale” and can easily be seen with street view. The entrance and exit roads are clearly visible. The snack bar and projection building is also still used, although I’m not sure in what capacity, also visible with Google earth.

It is now worth about $10. You might as well throw it in the dumpster.

What a money hog. Looks like old Lou the 3rd has been waiting a long time for his father to kill over just to cash in on all of his hard work.

That MSNBC is so full of crap it’s not even funny. The reporter was spoon feed what to type. People are not staying home to watch TV. Just look at the first 7 weeks box office for 2009, up 22 percent over the same time period as last year. Digital projectors do not cost 400K per screen, and he is not being forced to convert. There will be thousands of screens running film in 10 years. The simple truth is a retail developer offered the owner a boat load of money and he took the money and ran.

This theatre has not operated since May 2001. The “Kingdom” on the inside marquee is short for Kingdom Come staring Jada Pinkett Smith which opened in April that year. The Joe Dirt poster on the left wall was an April release picture that year as well.
