AT LEAST a couple notches up! Amen! We live(d) at 16th and Grant and my mom was an extra in the parade scene in Cape Fear. You can recognize her as she wore a BIG brim, tannish woven straw hat (2' diam.)! The scene where they shot from overhead! I wish I could post the photos she took as well! That theater was the best!
Hwd. Cinema on the circle was converted into a “twin” in the 90s?? I never knew that! Is that accurate? Not sure who owns it. It’s been shuttered for many years now. In ‘14 there was a problem with pieces of the “ceiling” falling onto the sidewalk out front!
Used to love coming here with mom and dad. This was located in a heavily wooded area near the intercoastal waterway so mosquitos would eat you alive in the summertime! At the entry gate, they gave FREE coil looking things that that you lit and sat on your dash during the movie! They would smolder and smoke. This repelled mosquitos! The further “back” into the complex you drove, the more mosquitos you would encounter. You prayed that the film you were planning to see was NOT being shown on screen 9! AND, being directly in the flight path of the airport, jets would drown out the sound every 5-10 minutes sometimes! hahaha! I saw Zardoz w/2001 Space Odyssey, Gone in 60 Seconds and many more. GREAT place, great times!
Oh yeah! I STILL live right by Hollywood Country Club Golf Course near Young Circle! (Moved to this home in ‘74). Rode my bike to Hollywood Cinema and saw Murder on the Orient Express, Young Frankenstein, Death Race 2000, Bad News Bears, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (I think?), China Syndrome and tons more! On some weekends in afternoon they would show Pippi Longstocking films for the younger kids. LOVED this theater! They often left the rear exit unlocked. We snuck in many times for free!
Loved this place~! Saw “The Song Remains the Same” MANY times at midnight, weekend showings! I remember it smelled really good in the theater! REALLL GOOD! What was the theater at 441 & Sheridan?? (Before it became the Pussycat adult theater!) I saw The Warriors there when it came out! Zombie also!
