  • <p>The ABC Bournemouth, the last Associated British Cinema to remain trading as an ABC, closes on Wednesday 4th January 2017. The last film is Back To The Future which is screening on ABC1, ABC2 and ABC3, due to unprecedented interest.</p>

  • <p>The 600 seats of screen 1 seen here occupied a space large enough for over 900 conventional cinema seats of the time. These, in fact, are from the stalls of the ABC Blackpool which were surplus to requirements following the sad tripling of that venue resulting in the cessation of live shows.</p> <p>The original Essoldo seats were much more comfortable and were complete with headrests. ABC sent them back to Essoldo Furnishings in Glasgow as they were becoming ever more cost conscious and the original seats had to be maintained by Essoldo and not ABC’s in house seating, carpeting and upholstery team…………</p>

  • <p>As a part of a special “Thank You” to volunteers and everyone in the Community who had donated or offered assistance to the theatre in some way, a special block party was held and the new marquee was brought to life for just one night on June 8th, 2013. The name B. Price was drawn from a raffle, entitling her to be the first person to flip the switch and “Light Up The Night” with the newly renovated and up-fitted marquee. This was the first time in thirty years the marquee was fully powered, with 100% of the neon and ambient lights activated. It was also the debut of the new additions to the marquee: the upper letter board and the diamond topped, neon tower centerpiece.</p> <p>The theatre group plans to occasionally turn on the marquee to announce fundraising events and mark renovation milestones up until the theatre is in full operation.</p>
