Went to the National last night to see WAR…it still is one fantastic theater..I dont care what anyone says about the dated design, seats, etc…The layout of the 1100 plus seats just feels so wonderfully HUGE…and the screen is awesome…and I would rather have that aged, run-down feeling at a large theater with history to it than go see a film at the Grove mall or Century City mall any day…
Spent half my youth at these theaters…Saw everything from THE BAD NEWS BEARS, GREASE, SUPERMAN II, THE ROAD WARRIOR to HOOK, GRUMPY OLD MEN and THE GODFATHER PART III. I miss these theaters so much…other movies seen at these two Twins…BEVERLY HILLS COP, INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, SAY ANYTHING, THE ABYSS…and so much more
Have fond memories of seeing movies here in the 70’s…such as PETE’S DRAGON, MR. BILLION, & THE SLIPPER AND THE ROSE…In the 80s and 90s saw a bunch of concerts at Radio City Music Hall…such as Rush, Frank Sinatra, Prince, Paul Simon, The Pretenders, Simple Minds, David Bowie, Joe Jackson, & Twisted Sister. In summer of 1997 I went to a Universal festival at the hall…where they showed such classics as PSYCHO, JAWS, & THE STING
Loved this theater…Great popcorn. I went to the first two films that played at this Twin…late 1980/early 81…9 to 5 and ANY WHICH WHAY YOU CAN…other films thay played here CREEPSHOW, POLTERGEIST, HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART I, NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN, MIAMI BLUES, MY BLUE HEAVEN, BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II and a ton more…
I loved this theater…and went here often while growing up in White Plains, N.Y. I remember seeing at the UA Cinema: JAWS, NATIONAL LAMPOON’S ANIMAL HOUSE, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, RETURN OF THE JEDI, DREAMSCAPE, THE WIZ, and FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH among others. I also dragged my mom to a double feature of THE BLUES BROTHERS & THE JERK…Theater was on the 2nd floor.
