So sad to see – even sadder when I returned to Hull and found the hideous shopping centre in it’s place. A wonderful Cinema – my first job, as a Trainee Assistant Manager. I saw The Beatles there, in November 1963, after queuing all night with school friends. ‘My Fair Lady’ was the film which greeted me into my new job. Loads of pop shows. Wonderful memories – including having marbles thrown at me, when I was on stage at the Minor’s Matinee….which mercifully failed to hit their intended target.
I have a similar print of a drawing, showing the other side of the Stalls, which I will endeavour to photo and publish – with a view to selling. My Great Uncle, Harold Cundall, was a Director or the company which built the Cinema. It has the name Glyn Roberts in the bottom right hand corner and possibly Dell 1933.
Coincidently, I was a Trainee Assistant Manager for ABC from early 1966 to late 1967, before coming to London in 1968 and working at, amongst others, The Odeon Leicester Square.
Last week I visited Hull, City of my birth, after almost 30 years. During my visit I was driven to Hornsea and, on the way back, I happened to look into the Memorial Gardens and there were the Lions!
Happy memories of working there as Assistant Manager, in 1969, with Manager Chris Mott. ‘Little Stevie Wonder’ appeared – as did Joe Cocker….whose posters called him ‘Cockle’. A magnificent building!

Fantastic! Well done indeed.
