Living only 3 blocks from the Bellevue Drive-In we walked to the movies many a summer night there. Unfortunately it was demolished and is now occupied by a church.
I saw “The Empire Strikes Back” at the Park Theatre during it’s original run. It was in 70 MM and the film kept breaking. I was given a pass to return…management attributed the breakage to a mis-aligned film gate.
I remember standing in long lines to see “Airport” at the Park. I also saw “Jaws”, “Altered States”, “Brainstorm”, and “The Empire Strikes Back” which kept breaking because of a mis-aligned 70mm gate. The management gladly invited me back to see the movie once the problem was repaired. I also seem to remember a censorship controversy for “Love Story” when it played there.
The Paramount opened early 60s I believe. I do know that it was specially fitted with a curved screen for the pseudo Cinerama road showing of “2001 A Space Odyssey”
I thought that “WUSA” was the last movie shown at the Warner. I remember there being fireplaces (faux I’m sure) just outside the seating area. Hey, I’m old, maybe I was at the Lowes State, but I was there the last night for one of them.
thanks for the photo
The Google map indicator is off by a mile or two. The Bellevue Drive-In was located near Guasco and 51/Bellevue/Elvis Presley
