The Culver was a favorite neighborhood theater. I saw Hellfighters and In Enemy Country there…I could have been inside when that photo was shot. I’m pretty sure I saw the first mass release 35mm version of the 1959 Ben-Hur there…kinda cool since it was produced across the street. The Culver was built pre-Scope, so the widescreen was an add-on sitting in front of the original proscenium. 1.85 looked like about 1.9:1, and Scope looked like about 2.1:1. The Culver also had the classic blue-illuminated clock next to the screen.
