I was hired as part of the group of staff that opened this building. We trained as a group at the Paramount (now Scotia Bank theatre) downtown.
Originally the building was lined on the outside with fiber optic cable that was illuminated via control boxes on the roof. It was supposed to give the illusion that the circular building was rotating. It never worked as planned and the control boxes fell into disrepair in the early 2000’s and were never repaired. All the cable was removed from the exterior when Cineplex repainted the theatre during the re-branding.
The original blueprints for this theatre had a possible future addition of an IMAX screen that would have been added off the back entrance.
Was an anchor tenant of the Complex Pointe Claire Mall when it opened in 1988. After closing in 2001 the space was gutted. The front half which housed the box office, lobby and concessions is now a CIBC Bank branch. The rear of the space which housed the theatres is now part of the Nature Pet Centre pet supply store.
Was switched to a ‘move-over’ cinema showing older English titles and French titles following the opening of the Colisee Kirkland in December 1999
Demolished shortly after it closed in 2005, along with part of the Centre Terrarium mall, and replaced with a Home Depot and its two story parking structure which opened in December 2007
