I’m from San Diego but I live close by The AMC Rolling Hills theatres now. I had no idea this happened. Absolutely disturbing to read about this. I worked as a projectionist for 10+ years and I was alone every Thursday night/Friday morning. Many times people would fall asleep in the theatre after the last show and the night usher wouldn’t catch them so they would wake up 5am or so and wander around the theatre.
I had one guy come up to me around 6am and ask what time the concession stand opens. I told him we were closed and asked him what he was doing here. He said he feel asleep during the last show and was waiting for the movie to start up again? For all I know he could of easy did the samething to me.
Anyhow I will take some pictures and post them soon.
Great memories at this theatre. I remember watching “Presumed Innocent” and “The Godfather III” with my high school girlfriend. I believe the last movie I saw there was “Dances with Wolves”. I wish I would have watched a few more movies there before it closed.
UA Glasshouse was almost sold to a local businessman in mid 1999. The deal fell through because UA was in the process of removing a lot of their fixtures and some equipment and he didn’t like that. The theatre continued to stay open and ran second run movies for $2 tickets. There was no manager and the staff from UA Horton Plaza ran it until it finally closed around September or October 1999. I personally removed as much of projection equipment as I could over a two day period. Left most of the platters and projectors. I heard a rumor Gold’s gym kept a platter system up in the booth.
I worked as a projectionist at UA Horton Plaza from 1992-2000. Paul was a great guy to work for. If he was still the manager I’d be working for him again. Paul passed away in January 2000. God rest his soul.

Rumor has it that Regal is trying to downsize UA Horton Plaza to an 8 plex dumping screens 9-14 added in 1995.
