I recall (with awe) viewing “2001” at least twice, at Hicksville’s Twin South. (Sill have my ticket stub from 1968).
The Syosset was a class act, as I can recall.
Many thanks for the most recent, and all, photo and comment contributors.
It’s just amazing to see these early photos and history of my hometown’s lost movie theater.
I spent many enjoyable visits to the Mineola from the 1950’s thru the 1970’s.
Still can’t beleive there was no effective community effort to preserve such a treasure. Sad.
Yup. Mineola Theatre was on Mineola Blvd @ First Street.
About a one-block walk from the LIRR station.
They tried doing live theater there in the 60’s but eventually reverted back to movies for its remaining years.
It was destroyed to make room for a non-descript office “box” bldg.
What a waste!
Got any trivia re “The Mysterians” ?
LOL. I saw “The Mysterians” at Calderone’s Mineola Theatre!
Just purchased the DVD from “Deep Discount DVD”.
Great progressive Sci Fi flick from the studio that did the original “Godzilla”.
Thx for the memories!
Thx for all the detailed info on the Park East. Another lost gem. I can’t understand how it could have failed in such a prime location. Even had more than ample parking. I lived accross the street on Nassau Blvd from 1982-88. Always enjoyed the convenient location and the comfortable auditorium there. The tickets were always reasonably priced, but I do recall many shows in a nearly empty theater, and poor maintenance (sticky floors) near the end.
Anyone know where a Mineola native can find info on the razed Mineola Theatre?
I contacted Hofstra U, their bookstore, and I was told they didn’t have the Calderone book.
I have 2 photos (film) taken near the end of the Theatre’s life…..exterior views from First Street.
Another example of profits over architectural preservation.
I lived across Nassau Blvd from the Park East, in the 1980’s.
It was always convenient to walk to the theater and catch the latest flicks.
I remember seeing “Q-The Winged Serpent”,there. It starred David Carradine and michael Moriarty! Really bizarre.

What a gem. What a loss.
Lost treasure indeed. Just as was the crime of destroying the original Pennsylvania Station.

Ditto for Calderone’s Mineola Theatre. The destruction of this gem, too, was a crime.
