Went to an opening night after a remodel in either 1934or 35. Lovely theatre, steep balcony, excellent projection. Floyd Wright[not Geo] played the organ there for a couple of years then he went to the Golden Gate.I,myself, installed an RCA sound system{PG 142] for FWC about 1948-9 replacing the old Western Electric[ERPI] set that was there.
This is the Hippodrome[later Fox]theatre in Napa Ca. It was at the corner of First and Randolph St. It was bought by Sam Gordon of Napa about the time of Fox`s financial troubles in 1933-4 and was operated after that time by Lawrence Borg who built the Uptown Theatre in 1937. The pictured theatre was razed sometime around the late fifties[my guess]
As I worked in the projection room of this thatre both before and after WW2 I,too, have a special interest in the restoration. I no longer live in Napa but when I do visit there never seems to be any one around or working. They have restored the “vertical” and done a beautiful job, other than that, I don`t know whats been done or how to find out.
An old man here; went to the UC as a kid lots of times, depression days. but I think what all you kids are missing is when in the hell have you seen this many seats on one floor.

Fox Napa was the Hippodrome and hence you have a photo. I have filed comments about the hippodrome name
This picture and the Fox theatre listed in cinema treasures are one and the same in Napa. It was the Hippodrome and then the Fox
William; the Uptown Theatre always had 1130 chairs in it from 1937 until they decided to multiplex it.
This theatre was many miles from Fresno. You cant look up Fresno St[Ave] and see foothills as you do here looking east up first st.

I worked in the booth in the Fox from when it was remodeled in 1942 until I went in the service and from 1946 till 1949 when I went to the Uptown.
