Empire Theatre Leicester Square
Photograph taken April 1950 showing the facade displaying the programme with addition of live spectacular stage shows. These variety presentations were a popular attraction introduced three months earlier on Boxing Day 1949 running each week Monday - Saturday. This photo also makes the Empire appear somewhat overpowered by its adjoining neighbours, right we just can view the side of the massive Victorian building of the Queen’s hotel whilst on the right is the new modern six floor office block. This appearance was partly rectified six months later in October when the whole of the frontage received a large makeover, above the presentation display the MGM lion trademark has been installed into the central arch becoming a prominent feature to be included in the new design.
