Recently I’ve seen a few service vans around the perimeter of the parking lot; I had hoped it was an attempt to maintain the site, but as I was searching I stumbled upon luxurypoint.com. I was in review of their site map and from the looks of it, the Amboy Multiplex Cinemas may not be here much longer. It is whited out of the map among the rest of the redevelopment and since regal cinemas is going to build a theater in the redevelopment area, it would seem that the multiplex would not be reused. Demolition seems to be inevitable.
That being said I would like to know if anyone would know of any way to take photos of the interior/exterior (with permission) or if anyone would happen to have more photos available. Also if I have my facts wrong please correct me. I truly do love this theater.
So I’m very curious about the current plans, if any exist for the future of the cinema. I’m currently a historic preservation student in Philadelphia but I’ve lived in Perth Amboy my entire life and I can remember going to the theater all the time. Maybe there can be an effort to preserve this building before they decide to completely do away with it. Any thoughts?
