Never new this building had been a movie theater until today! I lived on 2nd place from 1948 until 1957. During all that time this building was an auto service station. I used to play stick ball in front of the “power house” accross the street from this building. I hit quite a few “spaldings” on to its roof.
I lived at 113 ½ 2nd Place, right around the corner from the Gloria, between 1948 and 1957. I attended several movies in that theater. It did close sometime in the second half of the 50’s but I don’t remember if it closed before or after I moved away because my family continued to visit other family members on 2nd place well into the 60’s. At one point in 1976 it was being used as a law office, a have photo somewhere of it taken at that time.
I lived in East Northport on Clay Pitts Road from age 10 in 1957 until 1971. I saw alot of movies at the Larkfield Theater, I’m sure some were first run. On Saturday afternoons in the late 50’s-early 60’s: The 7th Voyage of Sinbad; House on Haunted Hill; The Vikings; Dr No, Goldfinger. Evening shows: Sparticus; Planet of the Apes, The Time Machine and many many more.
