Lorain Palace Civic Center - 1935 Simplex Movie Projector

One of two 1935 Simplex Movie Projectors - was in use until 1996. The carbon-arc lamphouse was powered by direct current, but the motor was AC. On top a “penthouse” head was added for films with a magnetic soundtrack. These were used for many of the cinemascope spectacles, but studios returned to optical soundtracks in the 1960s because the magnetic ones did not hold up well on the film.
