It was a nice theatre, really liked it. I remember watching “the Phantom”, “the Arrival”, and a re-release of “the Empire Strikes BacK”. gOOD TIMES :)

Before it was a Carmike it was a Cineplex Odeon run theatre, this was the last location that I worked for the company before Carmike took over. I was head projectionist there and worked it for about 4 years. Upstairs was pretty solid but downstairs had some issues, primarily with leakage, suffered from water damage whenever it rained heavily-primarily in the front auditoriums-I also cleaned the theatres overnight which was interesting. Behind the theatre there was what I could best describe as a wooded swampy area and especially after a good rain the frogs would come out in force….followed by snakes and raccoons-it was avirtual “Wild Kingdom” there at times-but fun nonetheless.

I worked here for a couple of years with Cineplex Odeon, my first job as an assistant manager, I started as a projection manager. I also worked at Cineplex Odeons other Tampa locations before they were taken over by Carmike(University Collection 6 and the Main Street 6).I also attended opening day but as a customer, saw “Hairspray” and “Broadcast News”. Really had a nice experience there both as a customer and manager, still remember those fancy purple curtains in the showcase theatres… :)

this was the theatre I frequented while living in Tampa as a teenager, I went to nearby Chamberlain H.S. sOME OF THE LAST FILMS i SAW THERE WERE “E.T. the Extraterrestrial” and “Poltergeist” in 83'. I also went to the old UA Mission Bell 8, and Northdale Court Cinemas before eventually going to work in theatres myself.

The theatre has been opened since 2010 under new ownership and management. It is the lowest priced movie theatre in Orlando and also features the lowest price concessions. It still shows the best in second run features. It is called simply Colonial Six Cinemas now and I am the general manager; Shawn Surface, the place is a little “rough” around the edges but still runs solid. :)

I was one of the last managers to operate the theatre under Carmike Cinemas before I was unceremoniously let go by the company. It was a nice little theatre for what it was, a small community movie theatre, had great clientelle and a fine staff. The theatre was located off the main road behind a Wendy’s and yes the marquee was parrallel to the road. Interesting fact, one of our neighbors was a mortuary. Last I heard it had been taken over by a church.

As an interested theatre manager working in the area ,I inquired about its availabilty recently. It still is vacant but is also still part of AMC-couldn’t get any further information than that.
