I remember the Rugby from the late 50’s, I lived in E 49th street and from our bedroom we could see the Rugby marquee blinking in our window. I remember the childrens section with Millie the Matron who threw me out may times.
I worked as an Usher at the Brooklyn Paramount until it closed in 1962, I then worked at the Criterion while West Side Story was playing until 1963 when Cleopatra opend and we were replaced by the reserved seat union ushers. They did however let us in to see the premier of Cleopatra.
I worked as an usher at the Brooklyn Paramount from 1960 until it closed in 1962. It was a movie palace and I never wanted to see it close. The rock and roll shows they had were wonderful and fun.
