Patsy: If you have Google Earth Put in coordinates 44°41'53.38"N and 75°29'27.85"W this will place you over Phillips Diner next door to the now parking lot where the Strand Theatre once stood. If you wish to communicate by email where I may be able to sent you Google photo of that area if you do not have Google Earth just leave your email.

When I grew up in Ogdensburg we had just the two theatres the Strand and the Pontiac. The Pontiac was located in the area that was called “The Cresent.” That area of town had a pool hall and bowling alley, Rubs Bar, The Ogdensburg Journal and an eating joint across the road sittting on stilts over the Oswegatchie river. Today all those landmarks are gone with the wind.

Pauls: Your story is about the same as mine. Saturday matinee with dozens of cartoons and kids lined up on Caroline St. I left Ogdensburg for the Air Force in 1955 wished I stayed and grew old in Ogdensburg. The last time I saw the Strand was in 1970 and the marquee read “The Adventures of Hucklyberry Finn.” I’m sorry to hear it burned, had many enjoyable times there with friends. I remember the diner, good little eating spot, seems like it’s been there forever. Anyone remembers John’s Spaghetti House down on Ford St. not far from Clark street? If anyone has photo’s of the Strand or any pictures of Ogdensburg I would love to have them.
