I always remember this theater as where I saw Star Wars in 1977. Also I stood in a very long line in 1980 to see The Empire Strikes Back on opening night. When I saw Tim Burton’s Batman a band played the 60’s theme song before the film.
I remember going to see Airplane here with a friend’s family and it rained like hell. We missed about two thirds of the jokes. I also wanted to see Alien 3 so badly that when it was sold out at the Roosevelt that I went here instead. That film was so dark I could hardly see it.
Hey when I was a teenager my dad directed a play in New Paltz. It was in a theater that must have been a movie theater because the walls had been wallpapered with old movie posters. Was that the Academy?
Is this picture correct? I thought the theater was at other end of this strip of shops but maybe my memory is faulty. I might be confusing the space with a video store that was down there. I can remember seeing Hero at Large here and also Flash Gordon.
I also remember coming here as a young child to see Disney films. Later I saw Ghostbusters, My Favorite Year, and Rocky 4. I remember that long walk to the back of the building to enter the theater

I saw Star Trek: TMP here too. As well as The In-laws, Bladerunner, Sixteen Candles. I remember seeing the trailer for The Shining too.
