My last year in LA, I had no job, but I won a $250 gift card to Landmark theaters, and this was right up the street from my apartment! I spent a lot of time here that year, and the last movie I saw in LA was the 70mm Phantom Thread they had here.
Totally agree that the large theaters were spectacular, and the shoe boxes and “lounges” were atrocious.
PLEASE UPDATE: Montclair Film purchased the theater. They will use it for the Montclair Film Festival this year, and open it to the public in November 2025!!!
I heard stories that the owner of this theater also owned the Clairidge back in the day, and would send a guy on a bike back and forth all day, bringing the film reels with him so they didn’t have to pay for 2 prints.
I saw Toys on that screen the week before it closed. Loved this theater, saw so many great flicks there. My dad loved going here because they made the best popcorn, plus they had the Temple of Doom video game in the lobby.

My wife and I took some engagement photos outside the theater because the photographer and I were both movie theater nerds and liked the architecture.
We also agreed that we liked Inception, but liked Dark City more.
Looks like this one may re-open again soon!

Like the Caldwell theater, this is one I would love to re-open in my vision! Any news? I know CiemaLab isn’t operating at SOPAC anymore.
Roof damage and flooding took theaters 1 & 2 was what I heard.
Any news on this theater? I want to reopen it but need money,
Has anyone heard anything new about this?
If it’s not gonna be a theater, it should at least become a sound studio to help with the NJ Film push
I saw Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade there in 70mm!
That house was also the first digital projector trial run for Phantom Menace, which I saw just for that alone.
Please correct, the 8 new screens opened in summer 1996. I saw The Rock and Trainspotting in the new houses many a time that summer.
