I was working there in the early/mid 80’s as a projectionist when we got the bad news from the district manager at a meeting there that the midway was closing but it might reopen which it never did.It was a very sad day for all of being that I grew very fond of that drive in.

I hated so badly to stay there at night all alone when I had to build up and break down movies.Beleave me I had every light on in the joint but anyway I was there one night and closed the place down to lock it up say oh about 1:00am and went in the booth and locked myself in to get things done and get the heck out of there and all of a sudden something or someone was trying to jimmy the booth door open but to no avail. This went on for about 5 minutes and they would not say anything and I ha about enough of this so I opened the door and no one was there.I checked the whole building (with a baseball bat) but to no avail. They sure did seem to be ticked off about it.

I think that the only person to help you there would be vaughn at the roxy site.

I remember back in the early 80’s that eastern federal had leased the corner of the mall and the lease ran out and I went with jim tripp over there to strip out the equipment there when the midway twin drive in had shut down.Jim Tripp was at that time the service engineer for eastern federal corp.I lived right across the street at arco villa apt.in arlington. What a crying shame!!!!

I had just visited this building just last week and found it to be very small. The stage is still there and the projection port holes are still on the back wall but seats and concession are gone.Iy is now a pet food supply store that was just very recently purchased.

I started working there as asst. mgr.in the early 80’s after eastern federal shut down the midway twin drive in due to economics wnen it was just a 3 screener and I remember two big hit movies we had shown thayt were “To Kill A mockingbird” and “A Chistmas Story"Boy was it packed.

All I did there was keep the booth equipment up and running when I worked for eastern federal corp. back in the early 80’s and thats when the midway twin drive in by eastern federal was also still open before the walmart !&#*%^ land grabbers got a hold of it.Boy those were the days or well nights actually.

Oh yea I remember when I worked there in the early 80’s and it was one of the most creepy theatres that I had worked. All the storys of the roxy are true. You could feel someone there in the booth or looking out the projection port holes at you but we could never explain how the projectors and lamphouses would be hot when we would open the next day and the movie would be already half way ran through and before we put our key in the front door to open for the day you could hear the movie playing and there was only one way in & out of the booth. I would have to put in new carbon rods & rewind the movie before the show despite the impatient customers.

This theatre was on the market back in the early 80’s by a company that I had inquired about called BR Brokers and when they let me see inside that the heat did not work and a lot of seats were ripped right out of the floor because of a live performance company was having financial problems but I don’t remember the asking price at the time.

Yea I remember when I worked for eastern federal in the early 80’s when my projectionist/maintenance job was closed at the midway twin drive in and they wanted me to transfer to cedar hills to train as an asst.mgr.and I remember when I looked it over that it still had a huge stage still intact and it was converted into a 2 screener.
