The text says this opened as the Imperial Theater in 1911, but advertisements in the Washington Post as early as Jan 4th, 1909 exist for burlesque shows at the Gayety Theater (“Ninth St Near F”) put on by my great-great grandfather, Louis Robie.

As sam_e referred to on 13 Nov 2004, I recall skipping school with a bunch of guys during junior year of high school to see “Deep Throat,” the day before the picture was “ordered” shut down.
The link offered by TC on 23 Feb 2005 reveals the Orpheum opened in 1895. I have several books about WC Fields showing his performances at the Orpheum Theatre in Omaha dating back to 1901.
Saturday morning matinees in the mid-1960’s were $1 for a 1930’s-style show with several cartoons, a serial (Flash Gordon, etc) and a feature…and parents enjoyed a few hours of babysitting.

I recall seeing Paul Newman in “Cool Hand Luke” when it opened at the Bailey.

Theatre was actually located on Maple Road and Alberta Drive in Amherst, NY, a Buffalo suburb.
