I saw “RODAN the FLYING MONSTER” at the Clifton. It was a grand old movie palace that ran a lot of horror movies. Played “CREATURE from the BLACK LAGOON” in Double-interlock polaroid 3-D there.
I worked as projectionist at the Bruin from 1975 until 1997. I ran some great films there, lots of premiers.“All the President’s Men” was the first premier I worked. Quite often, I would meet celebs there. Biggies I remember were “Terms of Endearment” played there exclusive for several months.As William (above)wrote, The Bruin installed 70mm in 1978. I was working there at the time and worked on the installation of the Norelco AAII Projectors. As he said “Capricorn One” was the 1st of many 70mm pix to play there.Some of the HUGE Boxoffice pix in 70mm were “Road Warrior” Blade Runner"
I have pictures of many of the marquees, as well as pix of the projection installation. I also made a short comedy film called “Walk-In' at the Bruin and used theatre staff to play customers. People still laugh when I run this film. Soon hope to make this available on DVD. Anyone interested?
I also worked as Projectionist at this STATE Theatre. It was operated by Video Theatres, same as the Lindsey at the time. It had a big beautiful 2 sided marquee, and a big neon sign that said “MOVIE TIME” right above the boxoffice. Played mostly 2nd run and junk films. nothing special about the theatre itself.

I worked as projectionist at the Red Raider in the 60’s It was a fun place to work, had the best concessions with the best Pizza in town. The Manager was a wonderful elegant woman named Jackie who had Diamonds on every finger. I hope someone can come up with a picture of this place.
I have some Dramatic Photos of the Lindsey Theatre intact and as it was being demolished. I once worked as projectionist, and my mother worked as cashier at this beautiful theatre. Saw some GREAT movies here. “The Ten Commandments” (Heston) “Alamo” (John Wayne) presented in Cinemascope and 4 track magnetic stereo sound. People used to Dress-Up to go to the Lindsey. I will post the pix as soon as this website can accept them. Ned Fairbairn
I was living in Lubbock during the 60’s and worked as projectionist at the Winchester, Cinema West, Lindsey, State, and Village Theatres then. The main projectionist at the Winchester was Jesse Murrah from it’s opening with Dr. Zhivago.
These theatres gave excellent presentations with stage curtains, stereo sound. By the way the Winchester played “Zhivago” in 70mm
