I moved away from home about 4 years ago and have missed the Alabama Theatre ever since. I am also I movie theatre junkie and a horror film buff as well. I decided to get a tattoo to honor my home, my home’s theatre and my favorite horror film of all time Night Of The Living Dead. When I did a promotion with Weinstein Co for Diary of the Dead this Feb. I finally showed George Romero the tattoo, he just humbly shook his head and smiled. He and Bill Hinzman from NOTLD said that they had been to the theater with a film in one of the many great film festivals Birmingham has. Here’s to the Alabama. Here is a picture of the tattoo. I wrote a piece on Old Hyde Park on this site. They are wanting to build condos on the theater grounds. It can’t get historic status because it has only been here since 1984 ( I believe ). I know thet sunrise cinemas has done well in the area. maybe they will concider
the hillsboro theater. I don’t know if it would do well in that location with independent and foreign films. Plus, the Tampa news is making more out of it than it is sunrise is going to be around for a while these to happen. Maybe the locals will stop it. But past experiences tell me they will not. The Tampa Theater is historic and it still has its battles. I hope I’m wrong Tampa doesn’t need mor condos.
I’ve seen that theater and it and the area around has seen better days with channelside and westshore and sunrise cinemas. it would not recover if you opened it and there is also talk of a 18 plex Cobb not to mention Muvico at Ybor City.
Well I see you point and I agree that should be but the theater of today and the future is more worried about ads and commericals than the films that they were intended for and that
blame falls on us, we consume and discard. The theater of the future starts to die the minute it is constructed. One day we will stand around and tell great tales of film and the silver screen
and well be able to visit a few of the palaces of yesteryear and
talk about the good old days before digital.
My Family and I moved to Lakeland in September.We had never been to a
Drive-In. The Silver Moon is great. It is now $3.50 a person. Children are free. I work at a theater and I will still pay to see a movie every once and a while to enjoy the experience.

This theater is very nice. It was original a Cobb Theater.
What kind of grosses do you get on the weekend? How many competitors do you have?
I worked on the retrofit of the new 5 auditoriums really an improvement. The retro was finished in Apr. 2005
The chain is Sun Coast Theaters. They also own Joylan Drive-In.
The Silver Moon is also a Swap Meet( Flea Market)
