When the 11-year old Forest Fair Mall with its Showcase Cinemas slipped into greyfield status – a term akin to a Dead Mall – entering the 21st Century, almost unbelievably, Mills Corp. decided purchase it for another Mills concept. With an outlay of around $135 million for property and renovations, things started out great in 2004 and the Cincinnati Mills would have two cinemas – one full priced and one discount. But retailers bailed quickly along with the Showcase Cinema and within five years, Mills left the property. The remaining tenants and discount theater were now in a place hastily renamed as the Cincinnati Mall – just one letter to change and one to remove on the signage. New owners changed the name to Forest Fair Village in 2013 but the mall and its Screens at Cincinnati Mall opening in Dec. 2014 went with the old name as the outside signage didn’t reflect the new mall name. At any rate, all had a tough battle as the mid-2010s rolled on.
