Just months after celebrating the American’s 40th Anniversary, there would be no 41st. A $200,000 fire on May 24, 1951 destroyed the original American and here they come to knock over the charred remains. It was rebuilt as the “new” American and the grand opening ad for March 17, 1951 is also posted in photos.
