Paramount Theatre
Here’s the Garden Theatre at 115 N. County Street (advertised on North Main) which opened in the Fall of 1921. The theater’s demise was likely its clinging to silent film in the face of competition from the Paramount Theatre which made an early conversion to sound. The Garden’s sound conversion was in 1930 and the owner decided to let the ten-year lease lapse as the theater was closed in 1931. It became a raucous nightclub in 1931 before complaints prior to the end of decade converted it once more to a restaurant The building still stands as of 2016 as a retail/mixed use site.
