The ‘Shildon Shuttle’ pauses close to the diminutive, defunct Essoldo during the 150th Anniversary Celebrations of the Stockton & Darlington Railway in 1975. The finale, of course, was the famous ‘Cavalcade’. The photo appears in ‘Steam to Shildon’ by F J Bellwood.
To tie in with the celebrations,the ABC in nearby Darlington, still a single auditorium, played the double bill, ‘The Railway Children’ & ‘The Titfield Thunderbolt’ for a whole week to excellent returns…….
