Ten years prior to 5 Drive-in was the much-publicized Trafalgar daylight drive-in theatre developed by Gordon F. Smith for National Theatre Services, Ltd. The concept was to use rear projection and a shadow box so that films could start prior to dusk. That innovation cost $50,000. Here’s the theatre under construction.
