The 1953 blockbuster was being reissued not only in its original 3-D with stereophonic sound, but “improved” with 70MM projection. This was reportedly the first time that Grauman’s Chinese had ever presented a 3-D feature.

Someone was sleeping at the copy department at National General who sent this ad out to the papers without the 7:00 PM showing and was this 3D movie in 70MM ? ? ? Hmm…

Yes I was there in 1971 to see this. They put two 3D 35mm R/L images on a 70mm print. Looked great and sounded great. StereoVision® was a hot system. They may not have had a 7PM showing? IA union crew may have needed a rest time. It was not super wide screen but filled the middle part of the screen with crisp color and reach out 3D with one 70mm projector.

StereoVision staged a “Hollywood Premiere” in the forecourt on opening night, which might be why a 7:00PM screening wasn’t listed. But it was mentioned in an ad published the day prior to opening.

A 1953 film got a GP rating?

All the kids of the early 50s seeing this film without parental supervision is wrong.
