NEW PICTURE THEATRE AT GARDINER – A Handsome Building

Opening: Ceremony by Mayor Sylvester. It might well be considered nowadays that the building of a picture theatre is an indication of a district’s stability and assured advancement. In this respect the salubrious and progressive district of Gardiner affords an excellent example. The official opening of a new link in the chain of Regent Theatres was carried out on Wednesday evening in an auspicious manner when, at the new Regent theatre at the corner of Burke and Malvern roads, the initial performance took place. The entire proceeds of admittance and sales of flowers, sweets and souvenir programs were given by the directors to a memorial fund for sick children. The directors are Sir George Tallis, Mr F. W. THRING, Mr. John Tait, Mr. S. J. Morel!, and Mr. Mendel Snider. His Excellency the Governor was present –

The formal opening of the theatre was performed by the Mayor of Malvern (Councillor Sylvester) who complimented the management on the handsome addition to the district’s buildings – Contributed by Greg Lynch –
