“This letter (dated August 28, 1962) was found in the files of the defunct Will Rogers Theatre (1936-1986; part of the Balaban & Katz Theatre Corporation), documenting one of their summertime horror shows (“Asylum of Horrors”), held on August 25, 1962. The program included a stage show (details not mentioned) and a double feature presentation of HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (originally released 1959) and THE BOWERY BOYS MEET THE MONSTERS (1954), both booked through the local Allied Artists film exchange. The cost for the one-night rentals was $59.55 for HOUSE and $37.00 for BOWERY BOYS. Also, $25.52 was spent for an assortment of “spooky” theatrical trailers. It was a different era, that’s for sure.”
