1929 artists representation of the Gothic State Theatre in Market Street. At 150 feet it was the maximum height permissible for a Sydney building until 1957. Having cinema patron entry through a skyscraper, to an auditorium located at the rear, was a common feature of American theater design - but was rarely seen in Australia.
