Gaumont Palace Wood Green
This photo taken of the restaurant the day before the official opening. What a pleasant experience diners must have received, we tend to forget the pleasure it was to go to a restaurant such as this. I started to collect photographs of cinema restaurants long before those of the actual cinemas, the reason being many never survived the war, also working at the Gaumont Palace Hammersmith I saw the photographs of their wonderful restaurant and large kitchen facilities. Here we can also view the design of the Gaumont Insignia carpet, which was produced by Templeton’s in four widths. Visit the Gaumont Palace Chelsea restaurant to see my comments on the chairs. My last visit to a cinema restaurant was to the Odeon Southampton, two months before closure, the final cinema of the Rank Organisation to close in 1972.
