Paramount Theatre Glasgow
This original photo taken on New Year’s Eve 1934. It shows the Tea Lounge on the first floor in front of the Restaurant. To the left behind the stair well railings one can see part of the lavish wall decorations by Joseph Nerini. The gold Lloyd Loom tables, chairs and plant stands, also called ferneries, were used by many large cinemas during the 1930’s there was also a specially produced catalogue by Lusty’s for cinemas. Sadly like many cinemas during the war on 7th September 1940 the factory that covered 17 acres in London’s East India Docks was struck by fire bombs on a Saturday afternoon when the factory was closed it was completely destroyed, together with the warehouses which contained over 20,000 pieces of furniture. It is said you could see the fire from 20 miles away that burnt for three days. Like those cinemas Lusty’s supplied they never regained their glory days of the 1930’s.
