Starlight Drive-In. Kodachrome image taken by Albert S. “Al” Johnson in June 1950. According to family records this was the fourth known Michigan drive-in built by Al’s Johnson Construction Company.
In this image we can see that the eight site-built screen tower vertical trusses are in place and workers are connecting them with horizontal timbers. Once the tower framework has been partially sheathed in plywood.
You can see that a scaffold consisting of eleven levels has been built on the screen side of the tower from which to work on the tower. Notably, no safety lines are visible connecting any of the crew to the scaffold or tower.
