The Last Attraction The Colony Theater Ran Before The November 8, 1951 Fire Was Mickey Rooney’s “The Strip” (Plus A Cartoon And A Short Subject, Both Unnamed). The Fire Cost An Estimate $100,000 In Damage.

This Left The “Then-New” 52x70ft Skyline Drive-In As The Only Theater Left In McHenry, Although It Closed For The Season. Residents Were Forced To See Films In Crystal Lake (Via El Tovar, Later Lake) Or Woodstock (Miller) For First-Run Showings.

Erection Of The “New” McHenry Theatre Began Construction In September 1954, And Features The Installation Of CinemaScope (A Fact About CinemaScope In McHenry County Is That The Woodstock’s Miller Theatre Was The First Theater In McHenry County To Install CinemaScope In January 1954).

The McHenry Theatre Opened Its Doors On February 9, 1955 With A 4-Day Showing Of Tony Curtis In “So This Is Paris” With No Selected Short Subjects, But However A Special Kiddie Show Was Added With A Grand Huge Total Of 15 Cartoons Being Added On Its Third Day.
