Unique in Adelaide, the double sets of doors and the ticket lobby that they enclosed were devised by Alan Woodard to combat the fierce gully winds that rushed down over the Adelaide suburbs from the nearby hills after a hot day. A skilled carpenter and cabinet maker as well as a silent pictures projectionist and theatre manager, he was also responsible for the beautiful carved and polished wood work throughout the theatre. This picture was taken when the CHELSEA was under the management of Wallis Theatres.
