In 1948, the fire marshal called the Holiday Theater a firetrap that included substandard wiring, rat-chewed wood floors in which lit cigarettes had fallen to the basement, and lack of fire exits as chief problems. In its ten-month run as the Holiday Theater, the venue had a lobby fire and then this blaze that closed the theater permanently on March 1, 1950.
