Long called simply the ‘Blackheath Theatre’, it was renamed ‘Victory’ by Katoomba Theatres Pty Ltd (B M Amusements) as soon as they purchased the property from Michael Gearin in October 1942 (after having effectively controlled the cinema for 8 years). The federal government was then running an ‘Austerity for Victory’ campaign, and the new name suited the wartime patriotic spirit of the moment. It has now been known as the Victory for over 80 years.
