Ritz Cinema Luton
The Ritz cinema auditorium was of a modern design with a coffered proscenium surround, the splay walls either side had three sets of highly decorative fibrous plaster grilles which were finished in gold, pale green and red. The central grille provided cover for the organ chambers, whilst those on either side were to conceal the ventilation ducts. All six grilles were illuminated from behind. Side walls being treated with ‘Marb-L-Cote’ finished in red and gold, then stencilled with horizontal gold bands before a further design in dark brown and green was applied on top. The simple main ceiling was stepped up towards the rear of the auditorium, fitted with flush glass bowl light fittings.
